Οικουμενιστικό συνέδριο στον Καναδά για τη χριστιανική ενότητα

Στις 24–26 Σεπτεμβρίου 2010 στο Μόνρεαλ του Καναδά διεξήχθηκε ετήσιο Συνέδριο, διοργανωμένο από την Ακαδημία Οικουμενισμού της Βορείου Αμερικής και το Καναδικό Οικουμενικό Κέντρο. Φέτος οι σύνεδροι συζήτησαν το θέμα «Καινούργια εκατονταετηρίδα: καινούργιες και ανανεωμένες στρατηγικές της οικουμενικής ιεραποστολής». Η συζήτηση του θέματος πραγματοποιήθηκε με αφορμή την 100^η επέτειο του Συνεδρίου Ιεραποστολής, το οποίο διεξάχθηκε στο Εδιμβούργο το 1910. Στο Συνέδριο συμμετείχαν εκπρόσωποι των Ορθοδόξων, της Ρωμαιοκαθολικής, της αγγλικανικής και της προτεσταντικής παράδοσης από τις ΗΠΑ και τον Καναδά.

Η Ακαδημία Οικουμενισμού της Βορείου Αμερικής υπάρχει από το 1957. Ιδρύθηκε με σκοπό τη διεξαγωγή μελετών στον τομέα των διαχριστιανικών σχέσεων και της χριστιανικής ενότητας. Επιπλέον, το ίδρυμα συντελεί στη διεξαγωγή των διαθρησκειακών διαλόγων. Κάθε χρόνο το Σεπτέμβριο η Ακαδημία αναλαμβάνει τη διοργάνωση των επιστημονικών συνεδρίων για επίκαιρα θέματα του διαχριστιανικού διαλόγου. Το επίσημο περιοδικό της Ακαδημίας είναι «Οι οικουμενικές σπουδές».

Το Καναδικό Κέντρο του Οικουμενισμού Канадский центр экуменизма ιδρύθηκε το 1963 για να προωθήσει τη χριστιανική ενότητα και τη μελέτη των άλλων θρησκειών. Η έδρα ευρίσκεται στο Μόνρεαλ. Εκδίδει το περιοδικό «Οικουμενισμός».

Στις 14–23 Ιουνίου 1910 στο Εδιμβούργο της Σκοτίας πραγματοποιήθηκε το Πρώτο Παγκόσμιο Συνέδριο Ιεραποστολής. Συμμετείχαν 1200 σύνεδροι από 160 προτεσταντικούς ιεραποστολικούς συλλόγους. Το Συνέδριο προέβαλε ένα φιόδοξο σχέδιο «Ευαγγελισμός του κόσμου σε μια γενιά». Το Συνέδριο του Εδιμβούργου προώθησε την εξέλιξη της οικουμενικής κίνησης, η οποία διαμορφώθηκε μέσα στις επόμενες δεκαετίες.

The Next 100 Years

New and Renewed Strategies
for the Ecumenical Mission

The Centenary of the World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh 1910, the onset of the modern ecumenical movement, is an introspective moment for many who are seeking direction for Christian mission in the 21st century. Based on a critical assessment of the status of the world, a new vision of God's purposes for creation in Christ, a renewed spirituality and mission ethos need to be developed in the life of the churches worldwide.

This Montreal conference will explore ways of witnessing to Christ while acknowledging the religious plurality in a secular society. What is the meaning of "world evangelisation" today? How do we bear witness to the uniqueness of Jesus in a multi-religious world?

These and related questions will be explored in presentations from Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, and Independent perspectives. Participants will have the opportunity to offer insights from their own traditions in small group discussions and open dialogue.
